Visual C++ 2013 redistributable packages uninstalled after agent install

Problem:

When a new Ivanti EPM agent is installed, sometimes the redistributable packages are updated as well. With this, previous Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable Packages may be uninstalled by design. This is a known issue by Microsoft. There isn’t a supported way to prevent the redistributable package from being modified during Ivanti agent install. However, it can be worked around.

Cause:

“There is a known issue with Update for Visual C++ 2013 package: When you install an updated Visual C++ 2013 redistributable package, binaries for non-target architectures are removed. For example, after you install an update for an x86-based application, the x64 Visual C++ 2013 runtime libraries are missing. If you install the “Visual C++ Redistributable 2013 x86 v12.0.30501”, it removes x64 “Visual C++ Redistributable 2013 v12.0.21005””

For more information, please visit Microsoft’s Developer pages.

Solution:

Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Update 5 Redistributable Package before or after agent install. Creating a distribution package may assist with this.
