FYI, my swd packages are on a separate server.

I'm trying to upgrade my 9.5 SP3 remote console to 9.6 on Windows 8.1 x64, and the installer hangs on the step Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4. I tried looking at the log and it says:

...LANDeskSoftware960\DotNetFX\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe /q /log /norestart C:\ProgramData\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\Install\9.60\Log\dotnetfx4.logBut that log file isn't created.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I am going to install the remote console on my work laptop and I was able to watch an install video showing me the process to do the remote console install. I just checked and my core server has 9.6 sp1 installed. The video said that the version on my workstation should match the core server. My question is do I need to install 9.6 and the SP1 seperately? I can't get clarification if the SP1 installer contains the entire console, or if you need to have 9.6 installed first in order to run the SP1 installer. Any clarification is appreciated.

Since installing SP1 our LDSCAN folder does not process as quickly, it gets backlogged and tasks are not running when they should, especially provisioning jobs. Has anyone else experienced this? We have a ticket open but its been open for a week now and no improvement. I see deadlock errors in the windows application log on the core server but we are not seeing errors on the DB server.

We are on LANdesk 9.5 SP3.

When I create a package bundle and add the single packages right from the beginning in the desired sequence without ever changing the sequence from within the bundle properties, the deployment of the whole package bundle works fine. --> Means that all packages are ok and that the sequence of the packages is also ok.

If I add the packages in random sequence and then change the sequence of the packages to the same sequence as in the above (working) bundle, very often the resulting package bundle will install all the included package in the right sequence but then leave the deployment status of the whole bundle in the scheduled task forever on "active" instead of setting it to "successful" after finishing the deployment.

This happens consistently on all target devices (100% of them - I had a target set of 43 devices) to which I assign the scheduled task which then deploys the package bundle

Is this a known bug? (I am relatively new to LANdesk and brand new to this forum). I have researched in the community forums but have not found anything related to this.

we are running into a really strange problem when installing drivers in OS provisioning.

Before I start please note that the server with the described problem still runs on 9.6 without SP1.

We already fixed most of the problems we have with SP1 but can not put it into production yet.

Back to topic.

Error Description

When installing a Dell client machine with Win7 x64 we get the following errors:

Opening comuter management: Error that Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher is needed, closes afterwards

Opening MMC manually: Same error

Starting a .exe file: Error that this is prohibited by our internet security settings

Starting Internet Explorer: Instantly starts, flashes a blank website and closes in less than a second

Since we cannot access the event view I can not say what exactly causes the problem.

Reinstalling the Internet Explorer does not work either.

Removing from windows features works but reinstallation from this feature does nothing, no error though.

Manual installation impossible, because we can not use .exe files on those machines.

We did not try tweaking the security options via GPO afterwards but somehow I doubt this will work.

Especially since the OS seems not to recognize the IE already installed on the system.

Problem Sources

Instead of a workaround I am more curious about the root of the problem.

When we install a machine with just a network driver everything works like a charm.

Some random combinations result in the error described above.

Dell OptiPlex 7010: Intel Chipset installation

Dell Precision M6800: Touchpad installation

Dell Precision M4700: AMD Videodriver installation, can't recall the exact graphics card

Touchpad? Maybe. Video driver? Ok. But Intel Chipset...?

Older systems like the Dell Optiplex 780 don't show any problems.

Three Ways of Installing Drivers

As mentioned in the beginning we tried three different ways installing the drivers.

In all cases we downloaded the CAB driver files from the official Dell website and extracted them to a network share.

The share is accessible and downloading works fine.

1) HII in LANDesk

HII in Post-OS installation, uses UNC to access the share.

We did not assign the drivers to specific devices and let LANDesk sort them out.

Result: Did not work well, afterbringing in more Drivers often old devices that worked before showed the mentioned error behavior.

Became not manageable pretty fast when you add more different devices.

2) HII in LANDesk v2

HII in Post-OS installation, uses UNC to access the share.

This time we assigned as much drivers as possible to the computer devices in LANDesk.

Result: Came out to be little better than the first try since we still had the said errors even if the amount was slightly reduced.

3) Copydrivers.exe and dsim.exe

This time we tried to split up the drivers pool so eery device just searches its own files.

To do that we used the tool copydrivers.exe in Post-OS installation with parameter /c from Hardware Independent Imaging - rev 9.1

This way we copy the files for the specific model to C:\Drivers_CAB.

Afterwards dsim.exe kicks in with /image:c:\ /add-driver /driver:"c:\Drivers_CAB" /recurse /forceunsigned

Result: Now we could find out that it seems to be related to some single driver-hardware-combinations.

Note that it does not make any difference if we left out /forceunsigned.

Conclusion

After all I can hardly believe that the drivers are causing this issue even if everything looks like.

Manually installing the drivers works without any problems, so it might be something related to the installation process.

Maybe somebody of you have experienced similar and can provide some usefull hints or solutions to this problem?

Can somebody can tell what has changed to the detection setup. In 9.5 my detections worked, via the log file, Installation already detected.

Now when I rerun my test package from the same task it will just continue to the 16395 message, when I run it again 1101 return code but I can't see my detection working. Scary thing in some instances.

Anyone knows a methods to test the detections in 9.6 ? Code 1101 isn't really promising.

Ok after deletion of the policy in programdata\polices, deletion of the sdmcache and the log file, the returncode is in the console still 1101 but his is the log file ^^

Got an asyncronsation problem for lot of push task. Can't seem to find a common denominator to see what is stuck on the computer or server. Have rebooted, reinstalled agent stopped processes, stopped services but can't find the point what the computer is waiting for.

How to interpret Scheduler Task Status Codes and MAC_STATUS for a task

Status 16 is Waiting, will retry failed machines

Is there a way to find the thing it is waiting for ? This issues have been with me since the upgrade to 9.6 SP1

I am new to asset management and have been tasked to find a way to retrieve software license # from over 2,000 pc and laptop.  I only need specific licenses # that would appears in the 'Inventory' screen.

Perhaps the script could be placed in the: Inventory, Diagnostic Data,  Application License Keys       OR   in Software, Packages, Software license key folder.

License keys I need include:  Adobe Acrobat Standard, Adobe Acrobat Professional,  SnagIt,  etc..

I recently installed a new server Landesk 9.6SP1 to migrate an old server from Landesk 9.5 version.

I tried to deploy agents to workstations but impossible to generate the package.

I obtained an error code 18945 and the log indicate that the file chspolicy.client.launchpad.dll is missing.

Any ideas ?

I have an LDAP import from AD updating a couple fields for reporting purposes. I need to find a way to update a field in inventory if the device is not in AD at all, does anyone have any ideas?

Setting up our test environment for 9.6sp1.  Current production is 9.5sp3.

Everything is looking good and like the new features.  However, I've noticed that even after reducing the number of vulnerabilities to be scanned, my vulscans are taking up to 30 minutes or more on my test machines.   with 9.5 we could run a vulscan in under 15.  In watching the progress it seems the longest process is "Scanning file hashes". 

Is this new to 9.6?   I don't remember seeing this before and it appears the entire user directory is being scanned file by file?

Can I turn this off?   Is this a learned function to build a list of trusted files?

We are setting up our LDMS server with 2 different scopes. Each scope needs access to a different VLAN on the network. For the sake of ease VLAN1 is open and can use any random ports for remote control. VLAN2 is protected by firewall and we want to restrict the number of ports that are used for remote control for security reasons between the 2 VLANS.

The LDMS server is located in a server VLAN which has access to VLAN1 but not VLAN 2 currently.

My understanding is the remote control is initiated through the remote control port. Once credentials are verified and remote control is accepted it jumps to a random port. Is this correct. If this is correct, is there a way to setup what port range it should use?

We are currently using 9.5 and are in the process of setting up a 9.6sp1 server.

I hope this makes sense.

There are different icons with varied colors and sizes those appear in Device List , Schedules task or in other places . One of my colleagues has forwarded me a list that I attache herewith . But there are still other icons . A complete list of it would be welcome .

What the small red icon stands for ? Please note that , in a laptop. while the small red icon shows , a task was active and successfully complete . And in the 'Successful' list of Task pane the small red is still there beside the device . The device is a laptop .

In Manage Software List, under Monitored URL items i have two URLs added; www.facebook.com and www.twitter.com. I want to see how many times a user/computer has gone to those sites. Where in LANDesk do I see that information?

We have a handful of "housekeeping" type Custom Scripts that perform various tasks (conforming Mac "ComputerName", disabling BlueTooth/WiFi ports on desktops, etc.). These only need to run once per device, but many of these devices are not connected 100% of the time (laptops are away, systems are shut off, etc.), and some are only accessible via the CSA. I would love to be able to deploy these as Policies rather than as Scheduled Tasks. Is there any way to work around this limitation?

If anybody else would like this, how do I go about making a Request For Enhancement?

We recently applied Component Patch 2015-0321to resolve an issue with drive mapping.  While it fixed that issue, it presented another.  If it wasn't obvious, we're on LD 9.6 Sp1.

Prior to the patch, to initiate the remote control viewer our IT department would click Remote control, type in the computer name, and click the Launch button.  If the remote control viewer wasn't installed, it pulls it from the server (enuRCViewer.cab).  We've set up the proper security settings and zones in IE, so we don't get prompted for trusted ActiveX controls.  Everything just works seamlessly.

After the patch, this changed.  Now, what's happening is once you put in the computer name and click Launch, you get this error:

This error indicates that the Application Protocol named 'Landesk' is not installed.  To get it installed, you must go into Download tools and click the LANDesk Application Launcher link.  These are a new options after the patch.

You'll be prompted to install the LdUrlHandler.Installer.exe.  If you don't have .Net 4.5 installed, you'll be prompted to install that too.

Once the protocol is installed, trying to remote control a device gets this.  The address shows that it's using the application protocol to run the remote control viewer.

Clicking the Allow button gets this:

The remote control viewer is not installed, therefore we need to manually install it.  I have to go back into the Download tools area and click the Remote control link, which prompts me with this:

After clicking Next through the install wizard, the remote control is finally installed and working.  If you don't have IE settings and Certificates setup properly, you would've gotten those prompts as well.

Why make the user go through all that just to get the remote control viewer working?  Is there any way to silence all these prompts, without having to push three executables (LdUrlHandler.Installer.exe, .Net 4.5, ENURCSetup.exe) to thousands of computers?

We use the LANDesk MBSDK for a number of things and I wanted to see how everyone out there is authenticating to the WebService.

Is anybody using Client Certificates to authenticate? From what i can see in IIS if we enable Certificate authentication on just the MBSDKService application would we be able to keep Windows Authentication Enabled also?

Will only allowing the MBSDKService certificate authentication disrupt the internal working of landesk calling the webservice? ( hence keeping windows authentication enabled )

We will test this in our 9.6 Dev but i wanted to see what others were doing.
