Help with Evaluation

Installed the evaluation software successfully - no problem

Ran the initial configuration according to the guide (I suppose it might be called a walk-thru guide or wizard), basically it gives instructions on what to do to get up and running I suppose.

The next wizard that popped up is the discovery and agent deployment guide (wizard).

I configured a discovery, discovered 140 un-managed devices and the wizard (walk-thru) will not go forward because it states that I have no discovered un-managed devices.

The only thing I can think is happening is my scan scope is 10.1.2.1 to 10.1.2.253 and the discovered un-managed devices are being listed with an IP address like 010.001.002.7 for example.  I think the wizard doesn't see 010 as being the same as 10.

 

Thinking this is the problem I tried putting the scan as 010.001.002.001 to 010.001.002.253 and the discovery engine interpreted the scan scope as 8.1.2.1 to 8.1.2.253, so that didn't work.

 

Bottom line, I'd love to go through a walk-thru but its not working

 

any hints as to how to get past this error?

Hello, we're still in the preparing phase for getting LANDesk in house so I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about the initial setup and requirements.

 

We are purchasing the Management Suite + Patch Manager. We have <200 computers. Going off the system reqs page should be fine running the Core and Database on the same server. I wanted to make sure we could use the same server for all the other things we'll need for provisioning/software deployment/patching/etc. This is the list of things I've come across I think we need-

 

  • LANDesk core application
  • LANDesk database
  • LANDesk PXE Representative
  • LANDesk Preferred Server
  • LANDesk Patch manager

 

Can all this be handled by the same server? We were looking at a single Quad Core with 16GB RAM and a good amount of storage.

How do I verify that some software is not installed?

I am new to LANDesk. My first task is to see if it's possible to verify that a software package or title is not installed within the domain.

 

I appreciate any suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Manually adding a user to User Management

I have a report I need to send to a user which is not part of our domain. I have setup the report and I can add other users as recipients to the scheduled task that emails the report. However I cannot find a way to add this external user to the report.

 

Questions is - how do I manually add a user to User Management so that i can include them as a recipient?

Windows 10 Functionality

I know it is early in the user testing phase for Windows 10 Technical Preview. I was just wondering what LANDesk was doing to prepare for it. With the free upgrade for 1 year, we would like to start upgrading ASAP after release (with a reasonable amount of time for initial bugs to be worked out.) I have LANDesk Management Suite with Security Suite installed on my Windows 10 test PC. I have only done limited testing so far, but it installed perfectly and remote control works perfectly. The only problem I have found so far is that the LANDesk antivirus (Kaspersky 10) does not install at all.

 

I think there is supposed to be a question in here somewhere... I guess it would be, will LANDesk be 100% for Windows 10 at release or soon after?

Hi,

 

We just upgraded to Management Suite 9.60.0.244

When I try to distribute an exe file I get this message and return code 1354.

There is also an exclamation mark on the task and when I start it is possible to restart direcly after. Just as it is not really run?

The file gets copied to the client machine but the file is not executed.

I have tried to run it both silently and with a progress bar but nothing happends.

The log file does not tell me anything I manage to understand.

I have seen this happen to others but no solution how to solve this.

 

This is found in the sdclient_taskxxx file

I guess it has something to do with the delivery method? If I check Agent settings in old sheduled tasks I can see they refer to my earlier configured delivery method. In my new task it is default set to  "keep agent's current settings" and it is not possible to find my earlier created delivery methods.


I really would appreciate any help. :-)

I have a piece of software that will not install correctly when run as LocalSystem.  It needs local administrator credentials and a fully working user environment.  Is there any way I can accomplish such a feat when using batch file deployment?

Hello All,

 

I'm having a little brain breaker with user management.

 

I want to make the public task available to deploy tasks but they shouldn't be able to edit. (easy)

As extra I want those user to able to view the tasks of one custom team but they shouldn't be able to deploy or edit the tasks in that team.

 

Started to test with local user but it is deploy for teams and public or none deploy rights at all.

Can I achieve this for packages, queries and scheduled tasks ?

 

Why ? As I want my engineers to be possible to work with tasks in one team but don't work in the team where I set the tasks for Global queries.

     I found this KB https://community.landesk.com/support/docs/9231 for this specific error and know the fix is change the COM+ identity login for the account listed. My question is do the agents need to be updated as well or does a server reboot suffice? We are on LDMS 9.0 SP3. Discovered the problem when the password was changed for the account and need to change the account that is being used for remote control and COM+

Workspace: How to configure it to access it from the LANDesk Workspace Mobile application over internet

Hello,

I have updated my core server and agents with the latest update of Workspace.
I can use it well from a windows device into my network but i can't access it from a mobile device with the LANDesk Workspace application.

 

Do you have any idea if there are some specific settings or configuration?

I have a VCSA up, i use Wavelink in the Saas to manage my mobile device and it works well.

 

But, i don't know how the mobile application can access to my workspace because it's not exposed to internet directly. My core server is behind the VCSA.

I probably missed something...

SoftMon.exe is deleting HP print drivers after installing Microsoft Office updates

Back in December 2014, after pushing out some Microsoft updates, almost everyone in our agency with an HP printer installed had to re-install their print driver.  It seemed to only affect clients on Windows 7 64-bit with Office 2010 32-bit installed and using the HP Universal Print Driver.  I just assumed it was a bad patch from Microsoft and didn't look into it further.

 

Then the same thing happened again two weeks ago after pushing out February 2015 Microsoft updates to clients. This time I was able to narrow the problem down to a specific patch: "Update for Microsoft OneNote 2010 (KB2956075) 32-Bit Edition"

 

After installing the patch, there are 7 files that end up being deleted from C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\  -  The files are:
stddtype.gpl
stdnames.gpd
stdschmx.gdl
unidrv.dll
unidrv.hlp
unires.dll

 

However, it is not the patch that is deleting the files.  Running Sysinternals ProcMon shows that it is actually SoftMon.exe from LANDesk deleting the files.  This happens a few minutes after the patch has completed its install.  At this point I am not sure why those files are being deleted, but when it does happen, it breaks printers using the HP Universal Print Driver.

 

This problem does not happen if I remove the SoftMon component from the LANDesk agent by running softmon.exe /remove.

Inventory is not being processed and very large folder ErrorBigScan

Hi,

 

I have the LDMS core 9.0.2.3 SP2 and I am having a problem with the paste ErrorBigScan on the path \Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\ManagementSuite\ldscan\ErrorBigScan, inside the paste there is a lot of files with the extension .scn, from one week to another the size of this has increased about 30GB. And the inventories send by the workstations there are no data being processed, about 200 machines are without an fresh inventory, I try to force the inventory scan, it says that run with success ,but when I access the console the information is not there ,it does not get actualized.

How can I resolve this in a way that the server process the inventories

Hi all, I'm new to LANDesk's alerting.  Not new to LANDesk, but to the alerting feature.

 

I'm looking for a way to monitor Windows System and Application logs and report any Critical errors to LANDesk.  I'm aware this create some giant logs.  I don't care.

 

Essentially, I'd like to be able to see patterns in errors on people's computers so I can focus time on fixing problems that are effecting the most computers and work my way down.

 

Would anyone be so kind to point me in the right direction with this?

Hi,

Has anybody been successful installing Firefox 37.0.1 silently? I'm new to LANDesk and the install keeps failing. "Error downloading package" Return code 105.

Anybody have steps on how to complete this?

Local keyboard blocked after applying autofix for Win32.Trojan.Agent

Can anyone help?

We have just applied a fix to Win32.trojan.Agent through patch and compliance as we had around 10 - 15 devices detected.

 

We observed that LDMS requested a machine reboot following this, however after reboot the locally attached keyboard stops working.

The mouse is OK and any remote access is fine!

It's definitely associated with this fix and subsequent reboot and we confirmed on 6 or so of the 'fixed' devices.

 

Has anyone experienced similar behaviour?

We are running v9.6 sp2.
